In our last week on duty in the Butterfly Garden we thought we found an egg!! Does this look like a butterfly egg to you? How could we find out?
Later in the week, Quinn found another egg! Can you see it? It's just under the leaf below the leaf with the first egg. We were so excited that this could mark the first real life cycle of egg to caterpillar to pupa to butterfly that we have seen in our garden!
As usual, we were also busy this week clearing dead leaves and bits of rubbish from the pots, as well as water the plants.
Some children children continued to use their Garden Notebooks to record their observations and theories through drawing and writing.
We'll miss visiting the Butterfly Garden over the summer and look forward to checking on how it's doing when we return for Grade 2!

Some of our observations in the garden over the last few weeks:
- We saw some insects that we first thought were millipedes. When we went back the next day, we thought again that they might be little caterpillars! (Emilie)
- We saw a small white caterpillar. (Sofia)
- There were none of our big caterpillars there that we put in the garden a few weeks ago. (Filippa)
- We think the caterpillars might be dead because there is a big tree that lots of birds were in. They must have eaten our caterpillars. (Chloe)
- We saw that a flower has bloomed from one of the plants! (Scarlett)
- Some of us saw a butterfly! It was brown, orange, and a little bit white. (Esther & Emilie)
- I saw about three butterflies flying away. I think they're laying eggs. (Filippa)
